Haptic Feedback in Pervasive Games
نویسندگان
چکیده
Physical interaction is a key aspect of pervasive games. Although physical affordances are exploited, games are missing certain kinds of feedbacks on the interface and/or interaction levels: Haptic feedback in pervasive games is still an open issue. This paper discusses feedback in pervasive games. To illustrate the ideas, our work on Haptic Airkanoid, an extension to Airkanoid, is presented. Finally, the impact of the haptic interface is discussed and our early observations are highlighted.

A Movement Based Method for Haptic Interaction
An abundance of haptic rendering schemes have been developed to help further presence and immersion in virtual environments. Increasing realism is the main driving force behind this development. Schemes have progressed from simple one-dimensional springs to six degree of freedom particle models, with a wealth of surface and material properties. Because of their relative unimportance, haptic ren...
متن کاملHaptic Battle Pong: High-Degree-of-Freedom Haptics in a Multiplayer Gaming Environment
Recent advances in both haptic rendering techniques and CPU power have made haptic feedback increasingly accessible on consumer hardware. With the recent success of simple haptic feedback devices in console and PC game systems, more sophisticated haptic rendering is poised to enter the mass entertainment market in the near future. With this in mind, we describe “Haptic Battle Pong”, a competiti...
متن کاملEvaluation of Pseudo-Haptic Interactions with Soft Objects in Virtual Environments
This paper proposes a pseudo-haptic feedback method conveying simulated soft surface stiffness information through a visual interface. The method exploits a combination of two feedback techniques, namely visual feedback of soft surface deformation and control of the indenter avatar speed, to convey stiffness information of a simulated surface of a soft object in virtual environments. The propos...
متن کاملTowards Transparency in Pervasive Information Display: Possibilities for Attentionally-Managed Tactile Signals
When combined with realtime knowledge of user context and goals, haptic feedback can contribute to the need for transparent, appropriately salient information display in information-rich pervasive environments. Designed with respect for human perceptual and attentional limits, it can serve as a “background” communication channel by freeing visual resources, and being naturally suitable for low-...
متن کاملSerious Games for Rehabilitation of Stroke Patients with Vibrotactile Feedback
In this paper, we present a set of serious games with vibrotactile feedback developed for upper extremity motor function rehabilitation. These games are part of a framework called SIERRA that stands for Post-Stroke Interactive and Entertaining Rehabilitation with ReActive objects. The framework uses Augmented Reality technology to provide natural exercise environment and motivating virtual obje...
